1st Source Grant Allows Duneland YMCA to Improve Education
1st Source Bank recently presented the Duneland YMCA Early Learning Academy with a $12,728 grant check and spent time in several classrooms to observe the programs their funds will support. Funds will be used to enhance curriculum and learning environments to meet the State of Indiana's requirements to utilize the Paths to QUALITY™ volunteer rating system for early childcare and education programs. It is a free resource to help families make informed decisions and to help early childcare and education providers ensure the quality of their programs.
The Early Learning Academy is a play based education program. Years of research on children and development documents the many benefits of play for children's intellectual, social, emotional, physical and language development. Children's early experiences and education play a significant role in their future success. At the Early Learning Academy, children at play are actively involved in creating themes, exploring and establishing environments, solving problems, and developing shared understandings.
"1st Source Bank is pleased to support the Duneland YMCA's Early Learning Academy," said Matt Vessely, 1st Source Bank Regional President. "We know that high quality, early childhood education leads to positive outcomes for our children, their families, and ultimately - our community. It's truly an honor to partner with YMCA, and to provide funding that will ensure that they can continue to do great things for the youth in our community."
The Duneland YMCA shares 1st Source Banks' support of education as a means to enhance and strengthen the social, economic and cultural fabric of our communities. Research shows that high quality early childhood and preschool programs prepare children for future success in school, work and in life. Affordable, high quality early care and education programs are essential not only to children but also to their families and the communities in which they live.
"The Y's Early Learning Academy is the best of what research and common sense tell us kids need: healthy beginnings, positive interaction with caring adults, age appropriate learning activities and plenty of time for play and making friends,"said Shannon Spratley, Senior Program Director at the Y. "We appreciate that because of the 1st Source grant we now have the ability to continue our work with the Paths to QUALITY™ system."
