1st Source Bank has donated $50,000 to the South Bend Career Academy, a public, vocationally-oriented charter school. Mary Chmiel, 1st Source Senior Vice President, recently presented the donation to school leader, Yolanda Smith-Turner.
1st Source has committed to contribute a total of $150,000 to the South Bend Career Academy over the next three years. The donations will go toward the capital renovation and completion of the school's building.
The South Bend Career Academy opened in August 2011 for grades 7-9 and will add successive grades over the following three years with an initial graduating class in 2015. The school offers Indiana's "Core 40" academic program and emphasizes project-based learning for all grades and vocational education for the higher grades.
