1st Source Bank hosted a ribbon cutting to celebrate new energy efficient exterior lighting at its Plaza Banking Center in downtown South Bend.
Mary Chmiel, 1st Source Senior Vice President and Supervisor of Branches led the ribbon cutting and was joined by Doug Way, 1st Source Vice President and Manager of Administrative Services. Also participating were project partners Indiana-Michigan Power, represented by Marta Elliott; Mike Brier of Acuity Brands; Dave and Jack Baker of The Dave Baker Agency and Larry Futa of All-Phase Electric.
1st Source replaced 20 exterior lights at the banking center with new energy efficient LED lights to provide a 62% reduction in energy usage. Additionally, the new lighting will provide a reduction in the amount of greenhouse gas emissions of carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, sulfur dioxide and mercury. Additional benefits include a reduction in maintenance and re-lamping costs and the elimination of “leakage” of light onto neighboring properties.
“Taking steps to reduce our impact on the environment isn’t new to 1st Source” said Chmiel. “We were one of the first area companies to set up paper recycling in the early 90’s and we’re one of the first to make a large-scale upgrade to energy efficient lighting. We have a number of projects in the works and I look forward to this being the first of several exciting announcements about 1st Source’s commitment to the environment and the communities we serve.”
