1st Source Bank contribution to benefit Youth Service Bureau’s Porch Light Transitional Living Program
1st Source Bank is pleased to support the Youth Service Bureau (YSB) with a $10,000 grant for its Porch Light Transitional Living Program in South Bend.
Through the 18-month Porch Light program, young women who are pregnant or have young children are able to obtain safe housing, move toward financial independence, educational success and self-sufficiency. The program provides the young women a safe and stable place to live but it does much more than that. Basic life skills like budgeting, using credit, housekeeping, menu planning, food preparation and parenting skills are also taught. The young women are also presented with educational opportunities, career counseling and job placement, and any counseling or substance abuse treatment that may be needed.
1st Source will also sponsor YSB’s March 10 “Recipes for Success” fundraiser which is receiving extra assistance from the five young women currently in the Porch Light program. The girls have teamed up with the Chefs and staff at the Morris Inn at Notre Dame to learn how to make crème brûlée that will be served to attendees at the fundraising dinner. By actively participating in the dessert preparation, the girls are getting exposure to a professional kitchen, the logistics of event planning, practicing public speaking and teamwork.
