The West York neighborhood in Walkerton in undergoing a major transformation thanks in part to a Federal Home loan grant award to the Town of Walkerton. 1st Source Bank is a major contributor and one of nine investors in the project.
Jeff Buhr, Bruce Burkart, Mark Gould, Connie Lemler, Sue Louzon, and Julie Keb from
1st Source participated in the ground breaking ceremony recently to celebrate the start of this project which will result in 80 substandard homes being torn down and replaced with 40 energy efficient homes for local residents.
The project was long overdue, as the 80 substandard homes were built during World War II as temporary housing for those who worked at the Kingsbury Ordinance Munitions Plant. The homes were built close together with narrow roadways and only one standard-size road to access the neighborhood. They also included little or no insulation and slab foundations.
1st Source bankers in Walkerton
will also have the opportunity to provide financial education and services to the West York residents in the future.
1st Source is excited to partner with the Town of Walkerton on this much-needed project. Stay tuned for more details as the West York Redevelopment project moves forward!
