What is Direct Deposit?

With Direct Deposit, instead of receiving a paper check as payment -- a check which you have to physically cash -- an electronic transfer of funds is made directly to your bank account. For example, if you have your paycheck direct deposited, your employer pays you electronically by having money transferred from a company account into yours. Other types of payments which can be direct deposited include:

  • annuities
  • bonuses or commissions
  • dividends
  • interest payments
  • pensions
  • income tax refunds
